The first time I worked with Tanya was towards the end of summer in 2011. That was the summer that I began doing outdoor swimsuit photo shoots and Tanya was one of the models I was lucky enough to photograph that year. I had several swimsuit shoots over that summer, but this outing with Tanya was one of my favorites. The colorful bikinis, creative tattoos, and unique jewelry all combined for an original style that added to the artistry of these final images.
I always consider myself lucky when I work with a model who knows how to pose her body and how to engage with the camera. It frees me up to concentrate on lighting and composition rather than directing the model. To me this is where the true collaboration between a model and photographer happens. While posing models is not as big a deal for me now, at the time it was often the difference between a successful shoot or a frustrating one. Fortunately for me, Tanya more than delivered, both with her poses and her expressions. I think we ended up with some killer shots!
The location for this shoot is one of my favorite places to shoot near Fort Collins. It’s at the top of a cliff that overlooks Horsetooth Reservoir, so while the foreground is all rocks and trees, there is still water in the background. Over the years I have shot here numerous times with many different models, but this was one of my earliest shoots there.
